American Hospital Services Group LLC is currently recruiting for a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to work as a civilian contractor at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. The COTA will be working in the Warrior in Transition Unit helping military personnel transition into the civilian workforce.
Job Description:
The Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant (COTA) will work under the general supervision of an Occupational Therapist and perform duties including:
•Establish and implement work therapy/work reintegration programs by:
Assessing patient’s functional abilities
Assigning appropriate work-related therapy/work reintegration activities
Assessing the patient’s competency in work performance
Adjusting work task requirements as needed
Monitor patient’s work performance on a regular basis
•Assist the OTR/L in establishing work therapy/work reintegration sites by:
Assessing the appropriateness of work sites
Assessing the skills required to perform tasks at work sites
Assessing the cooperativeness and therapeutic potential of work sites and their personnel
Educating work site supervisors about the therapy/reintegration process, goals, and patient goals, abilities, and limitations
•Conduct preliminary review/examination of data pertaining to the patient (including medical history, compiles and organizes pertinent information.
•Interview the patient’s family members, pertinent military personnel and other caregivers to gather historical information for initial and ongoing assessments
•Document information related to patient care in accordance with guidelines from AOTA, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations, and current military protocol as instructed by supervisor.
•Take part in interdisciplinary teams to make recommendations for the Warrior in Transition rehabilitation and reintegration needs.

Qualifications/Requirements/Certifications:
•Associates Degree in Occupation Therapy
•Maintain certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupation Therapy (NBCOT)
•12 months of experience within the past 36 months as a Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant (COTA)
•Knowledge/Experience with software packages including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and e-mail
•Exceptional oral and written communication skills
•Organizational and time management skills.
•Must have a current BLS certification.
•A current unrestricted license from any one of the 50 U.S. States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands is acceptable.
