I recently went found many videos featuring brushing protocol techniques and would like to post links to them and discuss ones that are really valuable and educate proper way of applying technique and those that are not performed properly (provide incorrect information/demo and mislead or may cause unexpected results. Please, feel free to join this topic and to provide your feedback, experiences or ask questions about brushing protocol and how it affects patients with Sensory Integration Dysfunction (SID) or Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).

Brushing provides both deep pressure and proprioceptive input (prop is from the joint compressions). Both of these types of input stimulate the body to release neurotransmitters that calm the system. See, brushing protocol video below. It would be more effective if the brush is not lifted while brushing a particular side or part of the body. Per viewer comment: "hugs or exercise can help calm us down on stressful days and this protocol works for similar reasons. The reason it is every two hours is because that is how long it takes most people's system to be ready to respond to this stimulation again. It's also how long it takes for the effects to where off. This is my novice explanation and i welcome any better trained OT to correct where i am wrong! Please!"

More videos are coming.
